Closing Tickles

I would like to announce that Tickles will be closing its Bethel, CT location at the end of February. Due to the exciting news of my pregnancy, as well as the attention and time I want and need to give to my children, my husband and I have decided to close the downtown store so that I can work from home.

I will be pursuing some of the business from home while being closer to my family. I will still personalize various items, create wonderful dresses and more, as well as design and produce custom invitations, announcements and more.

I want to thank all of the loyal customers and friends who have supported Tickles through the past two years. I truly enjoyed this experience and the friendships I have developed with many of you. I would like all to know that I am just 2 miles away and available to work as before. I will be working from my home office and can be contacted as before. On Saturday, October 30th, 2010, between 2 PM and 4 PM, the town of Bethel, CT will be hosting a Halloween Event/"Trick or Treat" Street and from 4 PM - 5 PM there will be costume judging on PT. Barnum Square.

So if you want to have your kids march all dressed up in costumes and use them actually twice in a year, come down to Downtown Bethel and have fun with your kids Trick or Treating. As a mom, I constantly find myself looking for ways to store all the little toys, books, puzzles, etc. I have decided against those plastic Rubbermaid bins that have no character. I decided to bring home a few of the wonderful 3 Sprouts storage bins from my store.

Critter Caravan's visit to Tickles

Kathryn of Critter Caravan visited Tickles on September 25th, 2010.

She brought all kinds of exotic animals to show us. Kathryn brought us three mammals: a Hedgehog, a Chinchilla, an Angora Rabbit. three reptiles: a Bearded Dragon, a Tortoise, and a Snake. Two Insects: two cockroaches.

Not only did we learn all about these animals, everybody got to touch and pet them!

These animals were from different parts of the world like South America ( I got to know one of my kind), Africa, England and Australia. As we learned about each one of them we got to know their habitats, what they like, how they live and how unique each one of them is.

Hedgehogs are spiny on the outside, so you have to be careful when you touch them.

Their spines help protect them from predators!

Chinchillas are SO soft! They have to take lots of dust baths to keep their fur clean.

Those whiskers are long and cute!

Angora Rabbits are also super-soft. You can shear their wool and make a sweater, just like with a sheep!

Bearded Dragon have spiny scales arranged in rows and clusters. These are found on the throat, which can be expanded when threatened, and at the back of the head.

Tortoises are shielded from predators by a shell. Tortoise live on land and they can live up to 150 years!

Boa is a large, heavy-bodied specie of snake. From adults to kids we all enjoy holding and wearing the Boa! There were some brave boy who wanted to try on their necks! I could not past that opportunity. The body was cold!

The show ended with a cockroach race. With pom poms we all kept shouting for our favorite Cockroach to win!

From Adults to kids we all had such a great time learning, seeing and touching. There were so many kids and parents and I am so happy we had such a nice activity for every age. It was an hour full of fun and no one stopped paying attention to this great show. Kathryn is really good with everyone and the animals are so cute.

Thank you to all the kids and parents who made this show so fun. All the kids were so well behaved and were very patient waiting for their turn when we were passing the animals around.

Introducing RoomMates: Decorate Their Walls on a Budget!

These decals are removable, repositionable, and reusable to include wall decals, peel and stick borders, murals, laptop skins, and more. They are the perfect cure for blank, boring walls, and can be used to decorate nearly any smooth surface you can think of. They’re easy to use: just peel and stick! With a wide variety of designs, we offer simple, worry-free decorating for kids, teens, and adults alike.

You just might be wondering how does it work?

How do I apply these wall decals?

It’s easy: just peel and stick! When you open a package, you will find the designs printed onto a pre-cut liner (just like a package of regular stickers). Peel the design away from the liner and stick it to your surface of choice. Presto—you’re a decorator!
Remember to save your liners: if you want to take down your RoomMates for an extended period of time, placing them back on the liner will keep them sticky and ready to re-apply whenever you’re ready to decorate again.
As a general rule of thumb, it’s always best to test RoomMates in an inconspicuous area before applying. If the surface is textured, wet, dusty, or dirty, performance could be seriously diminished.

When applying these Decals to painted walls:

Prior to applying the decals, clean the wall and make sure it is dry and free of dust or dirt.

Freshly painted walls should be allowed to “cure” for 10 to 15 days prior to applying RoomMates. Even if new paint feels dry, it may still need to settle and completely cure. Applying the decals to freshly painted walls may cause the adhesive to lose its effectiveness, which can then cause the design to peel or fall off.

Larger designs, like giant wall decals, may require the use of a wallpaper seam roller to ensure that all edges of the design make contact with the wall, and that the design will stick firmly without lifting away from the surface.

If applying RoomMates to other surfaces:

These Decals are not recommended on ”orange peel“ textured walls.

These Decals will not work well on brick, cinder block, or other porous surfaces.

These Decals are not recommended for use on wallpaper or delicate surfaces.

If applying these Decals in a bathroom or around water:

These Decals can be applied to tiles as long as the surface is clean and completely dry during installation. Make sure the design does not overlap any grout, as water could filter beneath and compromise the adhesive.

These Decals can be applied to shower walls as long as they are placed tightly onto the surface so water cannot reach under the design. Smooth the decal out and be sure that water cannot flow behind the design. Once applied, these Decals will not move even if sprayed by the shower. Neat, huh?

Do not place at the bottom or inside a bathtub. Water could filter beneath the design too easily and would compromise the adhesive.

When cleaning the bathroom, please take care to avoid spraying any harmful chemicals on or near your Decals! Prolonged exposure could damage the decals, and direct contact can cause bubbling, running, or streaking.

How do I remove these wall decals?

Simply peel them off the wall. That's it!
If removing an oddly-shaped design, or a giant wall decal (in multiple pieces), try to start with the largest end or piece first. And remember to go slowly: if you pull too hard or too fast, you might rip the design!

What shouldn’t I do with my Decals?

Do not place items decorated with these Decals in a dishwasher, oven, or microwave.

Do not place these Decals on rugs, fabrics, clothing, or any other textiles. Textile fibers may stick to the adhesive and cause it to become ineffective.

Do not place these Decals in areas where they will be exposed to extreme heat or cold. Very high and low temperatures can compromise the adhesive and cause decals to peel, rip, fall off, or damage the surfaces on which they have been applied.

Do not spray these Decals with any chemicals, cleaners, or fragrances. If the decals are dirty, they can be cleaned with a damp rag and a mild soap (if necessary).

How do I remove air bubbles?

When applying a wall decal, make sure you start from one side or the top of each element. Keep the rest of the element away from the wall or surface. Slowly go down over the design with your hand ,and smooth the element onto the surface, pressing out any bubbles as you go. Once applied, you should be able to move any remaining bubbles out by pressing/smoothing them out of the element. If the problem persists, you can punch a tiny hole with a pin to push the air out, or simply remove and re-apply.

What do I do if my decal sticks to itself?

When you're applying a wall decal (especially our larger designs), be very careful to keep the decal from sticking to itself, or sticking to another piece. If this does happen, though, just stay calm! Slowly pull the decal apart, taking care to avoid ripping the design. With a little patience and a steady hand, you'll be back to normal in no time.

Beardsley Zoo

A week ago we went to the Beardsley Zoo with the kiddos and we had a great time.
The weather was perfect, the kids had a blast and we all learned more about animals. There was a show called the Wonders of Wildlife. This is the time we all got close and personal with some of the animals. We learned about the incredible adaptations that different critters have helped them to survive in the wild! Some of the critters they presented to us were an alligator, a red-tailed hawk, a snake, a savannah monitor, and an alligator snapping turtle. We also meet pet-friendly animals, including a dog from the Bridgeport Animal Shelter and some rats, Lion, Tiger, and Bear. At the end of the show we were able to come up close to certain animals and touch them with the help from the staff. We were happy to make a donation to help the animals. This show is at 11:00am & 2:00pm on Wednesdays through Sundays until Labor Day. We made a day trip out of the zoo. We packed lunch and had ice cream at the end of our day. We also went to the carousel and hit the gift shop because the kids wanted a memory besides pictures of their trip to the zoo. Here are some pictures of our fun time!

So if you are looking for a nice day trip not too far away, where all of you can learn, please visit the Beardsley Zoo. I was so glad that we found a coupon (free child admission with the purchase of an adult ticket and this coupon) because it can get a bit expensive with all the kids. So now that you have it so close to you and a free admission, there is not reason why not to go! Have great fun visiting and learning!!

A special thanks to all who shared in our sidewalk sale days this past weekend! It was great fun seeing our special guest, the cuddly bear, walking up and down Greenwood Avenue greeting kids and handing out Tickles balloons. A great big thank you to our bear who dealt with the heat and humidity in good spirits!

Many showed up during our free face painting and we've got some great pictures of tiger faces, flower faces, butterfly faces and more! It was truly a pleasure to see all the young smiling faces as they each carried a balloon in the color of their choice. In this picture, you can see how my kids enjoyed being turned into tigers! A very special thanks to Zenith Party Productions who provided the cuddly bear and Melissa Dambrosio who did a wonderful job face painting. Since I love being different, I decided to personalized my son's sneakers!! (what a surprise)
I wanted something funky, yet playful and stylish!

I will be making these funky shoes for the store. Every time Lucas is wears them, he gets a lot of compliments! I just LOVE the way they came out! These sneakers are Lucas' 2nd favorite pair of shoes.

Many of the items I offer in my store can be personalized. I love adding that special unique touch to growth charts, back packs, stuffed animals, totes and many other cute items. Whether the child is a boy or girl, into flowers, sports, princesses or trains, my custom personalization takes the theme with a variety of fun colors and turns a special item into the most special item!

I get very personal with all of my personalization. I love to add color and life to any item for any child. All personalization is done by myself, by hand and in my store and studio. CT-Moms Tag Sale Flier

In search for mommy friends and wanting to socialize more I joined CT-Moms. CT-Moms is a very supportive group of mothers who live in CT and want the same things as me, interaction with other moms, activities for the kids and once in a while do something for a cause. The main purpose of the group is to provide support and friendship to moms in Fairfield County. I have to say that the times that I have asked for advice in the group I have received great ones and they have helped me with very specific topics. There are so many activities for kids and moms that are great for making friends from moms to kids and they all have been very successful. As much I have been wanting to assist to their planned activities I have not been able to do so because of Tickles or it just has not workout. In one of their year events there is a HUGE Multi-Family tag sale for Unearthing Treasures for Charity which proceeds to benefit The Center for Women and Families

I am so proud to say that tickles is a store that offers a lot of personalization, from products to stationary. Tickles carries PSK designs which offers announcements, thank you cards, invitations, holiday cards and much more.

PSK designs is a custom modern graphic design business that works one on one with its clients to maximize the design works to satisfy their needs. Anything and everything can be done from modern to hip. The design will meet the client's personality making it a unique piece.

I recently completed a few orders for custom labels for birthday themes. The labels were to be attached to the party bags. I really enjoyed working on these fun labels as I took the theme of each party and incorporated some aspect of it into a very appropriate design and color scheme into each label. These labels were round in shape and full of color and imagination. They turned out to be a great touch to an already beautiful party bag!

Personalized labels can add the perfect touch to any party bags, the seal to a party invitation or just about anything one can think of. Tickles

Hello, after a year of opening Tickles, I am ready to start blogging. Lol a little late, but better late than never.
I want to be able to write about my shop and my everyday life to spice things a bit!!

Tickles is located in downtown Bethel, CT. We opened up on May 15Th, 2009.

I had this idea of having a store where I could be with my son and work at the same time. The idea was really born when I was in the market for room decor for my son before he was even born and I could not find anything unique enough to decorate his room. So soon after my son was born I started my own stationary business (PSK designs) creating custom cards and invitations. After a year of Lucas being born,s I was ready to open Tickles. With the best support from my family and especially my dear husband Tickles was created. I wanted a sweet shop that offers unique and colorful items to my customers.
